About Pillows Talk

Pillows Talk was born out of an unexpected interest in my most recent muse, pillows.

For many years I dreamt of being a contributing artist at HWY 62 Open Studio Art Tours in my hometown of Joshua Tree, California. I assumed I would be crafting quilts for the show, when I started experimenting with pillows. A spark was born.

As I began to make more and more one-of-a-kind pillows with ethnic fabric, iconic figures, and vintage designer fabric, I truly fell in love with making these pillows. Then I posted a few pictures of my pillows on social media. To my pleasant surprise, I began receiving an overwhelming interest in them.

It was then I realized how accessible hand-made pillows are, and I saw the potential they have to enrich your space and tell a story. I was off to the races making pillows for the art tour.

Many of the pillows are one-of-a-kind because that’s all I had of that fabric piece. Through this process I also came to see that sustainability is important to me.

By creatively resourcing fabrics I am able to recycle, renew, and reinvigorate textiles for a second life, which has become invigorating to me.  I love offering beautiful, unique accents for your home that you can enjoy for years to come and make a part of your home story.

About Me

I began quilting 10 years ago when caring for my mother in her last years. Her home was loaded with 30 years of collected fabric, half-done sewing projects, and well-loved quilts. She said, "It's all yours, Jess. Explore." And I did.

My love of hand-crafted textiles was born.

Then this year, my daughter asked, "Will you make me a pair of pillows?"

I was off and running! Creating and crafting pillows captured my heart.

My desire is that the beauty in pillows also captivates you.

Why I Love Textiles

My love of textiles started when I was 10 years old. I was seated on the floor with my mother. She asked me to help her arrange fabric color samples for a college assignment. I was transfixed! Not only had my mother asked me for help, but that day I awakened to the impact of color on my emotions, and on my visual sense.

Color can transform our mood, can awaken our passions, and can develop our creativity. To this day, I love coordinating fabric colors!

My gallery consists of a lot of colors: one-of-a-kind fabrics, vintage fabrics, and re-purposed fabrics. These are the textiles I love to use. It is important to me that my pillows and quilts tell a story, but that they also creatively use unused, unusual, or re-purposed textiles.

Hopefully, you will be drawn to these pillows and quilts because they evoke within you a part of your own story.

It is my pleasure to introduce you to Pillows Talk and share a little bit about myself
